Overview
This project explores design elements like hierarchy, figure-ground relationships, and color systems to transform how we interpret environments. By emphasizing key features with bold colors and shapes while using subtler tones for secondary elements, the design guides intuitive navigation. Light and shadow create depth, enhancing the three-dimensionality of the piece, while varied textures and intricate patterns evoke cultural narratives. This mapping project redefines spatial perception and deepens our connection to the spaces we inhabit, celebrating the richness of visual storytelling.
Map 1 Collage
Materials: printer paper, news paper, string, playdough, tiles, gum, and glue.
Process: In the initial translation phase, I wielded the power to manipulate and refine the systems and categories I sought to showcase, orchestrating a symphony of elements to evoke a harmonious visual narrative. Discerningly, I discerned which textures and materials best captured the essence of each system, skillfully aligning form with function to illuminate the inherent beauty and complexity of my vision.
Map 2 Monochromatic
Materials: magazine pages, carpet, playdough, popit toys, tape, and glue.
Process: Throughout the second translation phase, I ventured into the realm of color and hue, embarking on a creative odyssey where I explored the boundless palette of artistic ex-pression. Here, 1 assumed the role of a discerning arbiter, making judicious selections that harmonized with the essence of each calekory. With each stroke of my metaphorical brush, i imbued the canvas with nuanced variations, infusing the work with a mesmerizing depth that resonated with both the eye and the soul.
Map 3 Pushing Paper
Materials: drawing paper and glue.
Process: Transitioning to the third map marked a pivotal juncture in my artistic evolution, as 1 delved deeper into the mastery of shadow play and density manipulation. Here, amost the the terplay of light and form, I honed my craft with refined finesse, deftly orchestrating an intricate ballet of paper-folding patterns. Through a meticulous fusion of technique and intuition, I achieved a seamless synthesis, each fold and crease imbuing the canvas with a mesmerizing depth, rendering my systems with unparalleled clarity and resonance.
Map 4 Line Work
Materials: drawing paper and pencils.
Process: In the culmination of my artistic jour-ney, tne tourtn map emersco as & testament to my craftsmanship and dedication. Here, I transcend mere representation, infusing each stroke and repetition of pattern with an intrinsic vitality that brought forth a symphony of interconnected systems. Through a meticulous choreography of form and repetition, I crafted a tableau that resonated with both precision and poctry, inviting viewers to embark on a journey of discovery amidst the tapestry of my creation.
